Oracle's Custom Development
Method (CDM) is the methodology in Oracle Consulting Services for
delivering custom software development services.
CDM Advantage is a
packaged version of the CDM methodology, available for use by
customers and partners. It is a comprehensive toolkit for
developing systems using Oracle development tools. It provides
ready-made standards, guidelines, templates and development
approaches. These are provided as a set of handbooks and software
tools for project team members, team leaders and project managers
that help to standardize and automate the process of developing
custom software applications. CDM Advantage is based on the
extensive experience of Oracle Consulting Services' consultants
world-wide.

Oracle's Project Management
Method (PJM) is the basis for project management for projects of
all types within Oracle Consulting Services. PJM Advantage is a customer version consisting of
handbooks and software for enabling effective and efficient
project management, based on the PJM methodology.

Project Workplan Templates
Standard project templates, available in Project Workbench and Microsoft Project format. These templates include complete work breakdown structures for two CDM development approaches (Classic and Fast Track) and include PJM tasks and all task dependencies.
Deliverable Templates
A set of CDM and PJM templates that correspond to the deliverables produced during a custom development project. Most deliverables are supported by preformatted boilerplate text and special macros. These templates have been packaged into a single, menu-driven Microsoft Word template tool.

Who Developed CDM and PJM Advantage?

Services, based on the internal CDM and PJM methodologies --
proven, structured development approaches that are used
successfully worldwide by Oracle consultants. Both are a part of
Oracle Method -- Oracle Consulting Services' full life-cycle

Who should use CDM and PJM Advantage?

All development

core method package -- CDM Advantage. PJM Advantage is intended
for IS managers, project leaders and team leaders to help them

What is the difference between CDM Advantage and the CDM that Oracle consultants use on projects?
The only
difference is that CDM Advantage does not include information
that is specific or proprietary to Oracle Consulting Services.

How does CDM Advantage relate to Designer/2000?
You will get the
most out of CDM Advantage if you also use Designer/2000.
Designer/2000 supports many of the tasks that are a part of CDM.
CDM Advantage specifically references much of the Designer/2000
functionality in the Standards and Guidelines Library, and the
Deliverable Templates call for inclusion of specific
Designer/2000 reports for deliverable content.
How does CDM relate to CASE Method?
CDM Advantage was
developed from Oracle consultants' experience in using CASE
Method on thousands of custom development projects. It has
improved and updated techniques, is deliverable-based, and is
appropriate for more types of development than CASE Method. CDM
has superseded CASE Method in Oracle Consulting Services as the
standard custom development methodology.
How does CDM Advantage relate to AIM Advantage?
Both packages belong to Oracle Consulting Services' family of methods under Oracle Method. They both contain handbooks and similar software tools. Users of AIM Advantage will be able to quickly adopt CDM Advantage tools.

Can my company modify the materials in CDM/PJM Advantage?
The packages can
be purchased with the ability to modify source materials for an
additional 50% over list prices. Purchasers of the right to
modify will receive, in addition to the baseline packages,
Microsoft Word files for all of the package handbooks. Those who
wish to modify baseline Deliverable Templates or Online Method
Guidelines should be aware that they will require some additional
training. This training is available through Oracle Consulting
Services.
Where and when can CDM/PJM Advantage be purchased?
CDM Advantage and PJM Advantage will be available on a worldwide basis in December, 1996.
Who supports CDM/PJM Advantage?
As "Tier
3" products, CDM Advantage and PJM Advantage are not
supported through Oracle Worldwide Support. Support services may
be arranged through Oracle Consulting Services.
Are upgrades to CDM/PJM Advantage planned?
Yes, but there are
no specific scheduled dates for upgrades. Existing customers will
be notified of upgrades when and if they become available.
Is CDM/PJM Advantage compatible with Windows 95 and NT?
Both packages are
compatible with Windows 95 and Windows NT.
